Computers for beginners
Description
This *FREE course is designed to cover the digital basics for everyday life, and prepare you to move onto an Essential Digital Skills (EDSQ) or Digital Functional Skills (DFSQ) Entry Level 3 qualification course.
Following an initial assessment, you will cover the following topics:
- Entering and navigating the digital world
- Becoming familiar with keyboard layout and some common keyboard shortcuts
- Learning the basics of Microsoft Word
- Creating a professional-looking document, e.g. a letter, C.V. or information sheet
- Saving and printing documents
- Using the internet safely and efficiently
- Using e-mail to create a new message, or to reply to a received message
- Learning about business-style email etiquette
- Developing an understanding of digital security
- Developing a basic understanding of copyright and data protection laws
You can sign up part-time for one 3-hour session per week or fast-track for two full days per week for 6 weeks.
To study this course, you must have basic communication skills, i.e. are able to read and write English at Entry Level 3 minimum. It is suitable for learners who are either complete beginners or who already have a little experience in using a computer.
*Free courses are subject to eligibility (aged 19+, living within the Northeast England region, UK residency criteria apply).
