Digital summer short-courses

Description

To study this course, you must have basic communication skills i.e. are able to read and write English at Entry Level 3 minimum.  The course is suitable for learners who are either complete beginners or who already have a little experience in using a computer.

Please note that this course uses Windows 10 and Office 2019.

This is a short, taster-course which will give learners an introduction to using computers, with the view to advancing on to our Computers for Beginners course or a Digital Skills Workshop.

Following an initial assessment, your tutor will focus on some of the below areas, over the two day course:

  • Entering and navigating the digital world
  • Becoming familiar with keyboard layout and some common keyboard shortcuts
  • Learning the basics of Microsoft Word
  • Creating a professional-looking documents: a letter, a CV or an information sheet
  • Saving and printing documents
  • Using the Internet safely and efficiently
  • Using e-mail to create a new message or replying to a received message
  • Learning about business-style email etiquette
  • Developing an understanding of digital security
  • Developing a basic understanding of data protection laws

There are no exams on this course, but you will create a portfolio of work completed during your normal class time. There will be plenty of individual support offered throughout the course to help you build on your skills.

Course Length

Total course takes place over 2 full days, 9.30am – 3.30pm.

Attendance

It is a requirement that you attend 100% of the course.

At the end of your course, you may wish to enrol on Computers for Beginners to perfect the basics, or a Digital Skills Workshop, to earn yourself an Essential Digital Skills or Digital Functional Skills qualification at E3 or L1.
