DOP Digital Champions Volunteering and Training

Description

Would you like to be a volunteer to support communities of North Tyneside with day-to-day digital skills? We are looking for people with good digital knowledge and excellent communication skills to help build confidence in digital skills for work and life.

Full training is provided, and an enhanced DBS check will be required, but we cover the cost of this.

Training includes: Digital Skills, Delivery Techniques, Safeguarding, Prevent, Equality & Diversity, Council Values, E-safety, Information Security and GDPR.

You can learn how to support people with:

  • Setting up your device (connecting to secure WIFI, system logins)
  • Understanding Digital Terminology
  • Staying Safe Online
  • Going Digital (Online Services)
  • Navigating the Internet
  • On Demand Services
  • Social Media
  • Stay Connected (accessing and participating in video calls/conversations)
  • Communication (Email/ Teams/ Google)
  • Storing data and saving files (internal and working remotely)
  • Basics use of Microsoft packages (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Once you have completed training, we will arrange for you to complete an application for an enhanced DBS check. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to your tutor.

Once the DBS check has been completed you can start volunteering. At which point you will be provided a free Samsung 10” tablet which is yours to keep, even after you’ve completed volunteering.

Assessment

There are no formal assessments or exams. Progress and feedback will be discussed with your tutor during the course.

Course length

15 hours virtual training delivered over 2 sessions per week for 3 weeks.

Attendance

It is recommended that you attend at least 80% of the training to best prepare you for volunteering.

This is a non-accredited course; we also offer a range of digital and IT-based qualifications. Please speak to your tutor who will be able to advise you on what courses would best suit your needs.
