This qualification is for anyone looking for an introduction to coding. It will support learners that are looking to progress into further coding qualifications or looking for employment in the digital industry. It may be helpful for learners to have completed a Level 1 digital related qualification and be comfortable using digital devices (PC or Mac).
This is a Distance Learning course however you must attend an online induction session before you can begin your studies. Please note that whilst the course is free, there is a £50 withdrawal fee if you choose to withdraw from the course.
This qualification aims to focus on an introduction to coding within the digital sector. The objectives of this qualification are to enable the learner to gain an understanding of:
- The principles of coding
- The stages of the software development cycle
- Coding terminology and the key principles of writing code
- Different coding types
- The best practices in coding
- The methods of testing and the DevOps process
- Effective communication and project management in coding

This is an online course. You will receive your own study pack, alongside a specialist tutor who will guide you through your studies. Your study pack includes a set of high-quality knowledge workbooks that are designed to help you learn independently through a range of reflective activities. You will also receive an online assessment account (e-assessor) where you will document your evidence.
To complete this course regular access to a computer, laptop or tablet is essential and a basic level of IT knowledge recommended. Learners must also have access to a storage device, web browser and internet connectivity.
It would also be of benefit to have some level of confidence in producing documents in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

We have high expectations of our learners. A Level 2 course is the same level as a GCSE, therefore, we expect you to use the learning resources as a starting point, complete extra research to broaden your knowledge, reference your sources, and add your own words. When sourcing some of your information from the internet, you will need to cite the web address and the date that you visited the website.

12 weeks (although you can complete more quickly if you wish)
Attendance
This course is part of our online learning offer, and you will primarily study at home. Regular drop-in workshops are available, facilitated by a specialist tutor. We encourage attendance at the drop-in sessions for support, reassurance and knowledge building.
You will receive submission dates for all units.
