Introduction to coding

Description

This qualification is for anyone looking for an introduction to coding.

It will support learners that are looking to progress into further coding qualifications or looking for employment in the digital industry.

It may be helpful for learners to have completed a level 1 digital related qualification and be comfortable using digital devices (PC or Mac).

The objectives of this qualification are to enable the learner to gain an understanding of:

  • principles of coding
  • the stages of the software development cycle
  • coding terminology and the key principles of writing code
  • different coding types
  • best practices in coding
  • methods of testing and the DevOps process
  • effective communication and project management in coding

This is a Distance Learning course. Please note that whilst the course is free, there is a £50 withdrawal fee if you choose to withdraw from the course.

To complete this course regular access to a computer, laptop or tablet is essential and a basic level of IT knowledge recommended. Learners must also have access to a storage device, web browser and internet connectivity.

It would also be of benefit to have some level of confidence in producing documents in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Awarding body: NCFE

Each learner must create a portfolio of evidence generated from appropriate assessment tasks, which demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes associated with each unit.

This is a distance learning course, meaning you can study at a time that suits you. You will have access to an e-portfolio on the E-assessor learning platform where you will find your learning materials and present your evidence. You will also have an allocated tutor/assessor to support and guide you through your studies

Attendance

This is a 12 week Distance Learning programme, but you must attend an induction session. If you require additional support, tutorials can be arranged either through TEAMS, over the telephone or by email.

This course will prepare you for progression to Level 3 coding related courses or other level 2 courses; or a classroom-based course such as:

  • Microbytes Spreadsheets Level 2
  • Microbytes PowerPoint Level 2
  • Microbytes Word Processing Level 2
