There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification.

Please note whilst the course is free, there is a £50 withdrawal fee if you leave or are withdrawn from the course without completion.

The purpose of this qualification is to increase the learner’s knowledge and understanding of common childhood illnesses to enable them to support the development and well-being of infants and children they support/care for.

Learners will understand common illnesses that occur in childhood, gain insight into providing a safe and healthy environment for babies and children, and understand health emergencies and specific health conditions in an early years setting.

Awarding Body: NCFE
This is a distance learning course. You will receive your own study pack, alongside a dedicated tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. Your study packs include a set of high-quality knowledge workbooks that are designed to help you learn independently through a range of reflective activities. You will also receive an online assessment account (e-assessor) where you will document your evidence.

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Common Childhood Illnesses, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units:

  • Unit 1: Understand how to provide a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children
  • Unit 2: Understand common childhood illnesses
  • Unit 3: Understand health emergencies and specific health conditions in an early years setting

Knowledge-based assessment to be completed via e-portfolio system.

Course Length
9 weeks (although you can complete more quickly if you wish)

Attendance

This course is part of our online learning offer, and you will primarily study at home. Regular drop-in workshops are available, facilitated by a specialist tutor. We encourage attendance at the drop-in sessions for support, reassurance and knowledge building.

You will receive submission dates for all units.

If you require additional support, regular tutorials can be arranged.
