This qualification is designed for a wide range of learners who wish to gain an understanding of the prevention and control of infection within healthcare settings.
Please note that whilst the course is free, there is a £50 withdrawal fee if you choose to leave or are withdrawn from the course without completion.
This qualification aims to help learners to understand:
- The meaning and importance of infection control
- The causes of infections, the conditions in which they thrive, and the ways that they can be spread
- Methods used to prevent and control the spread of infection
This qualification is designed for a wide range of learners who wish to gain an understanding of the prevention and control of infection within healthcare settings.
Awarding Body: NCFE
This is an online course. You will receive your own study pack, alongside a specialist tutor who will guide you through your studies. Your study pack includes a set of high-quality knowledge workbooks that are designed to help you learn independently through a range of reflective activities. You will also receive an online assessment account (e-assessor) where you will document your evidence.
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings, learners must achieve 4 mandatory units:
- Unit 01: Principles of the causes and spread of infection in healthcare settings
- Unit 02: Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in healthcare settings
- Unit 03: Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in healthcare settings
- Unit 04: Principles of infection prevention and control in healthcare settings
Knowledge-based assessment to be completed via e-portfolio system.
Course Length
8 weeks (although you can complete more quickly if you wish)
Attendance
This course is part of our online learning offer, and you will primarily study at home. Regular drop-in workshops are available, facilitated by a specialist tutor. We encourage attendance at the drop-in sessions for support, reassurance and knowledge building.
You will receive submission dates for all units.
