Safe Handling of Medication
Description
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication in Health and Social Care is a Level 2 qualification, so a good standard of literacy is required.
This course is more suited to those already working within the health and social care sector and is open to learners 19+.
This course is distance learning, so learners need access to a computer, laptop or tablet and internet connectivity.
This qualification is aimed at anyone working in a healthcare or social care environment.
This qualification aims to help learners develop:
- A general understanding of different types of medication and their use
- Knowledge of the procedures for obtaining, storing, administering and disposing of medication
- An understanding of legislation and the audit process related to medication and issues of responsibility and accountability
- An understanding of the record-keeping process for medication
This is a knowledge-based qualification; achievement will not allow learners to be considered occupationally competent in the administration of medication.
Awarding Body: NCFE
This is an online course. You will receive your own study pack, alongside a specialist tutor who will guide you through your studies. Your study pack includes a set of high-quality knowledge workbooks that are designed to help you learn independently through a range of reflective activities. You will also receive an online assessment account (e-assessor) where you will document your evidence.
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication in Health and Social Care, learners are required to successfully complete 4 mandatory units:
- Unit 01: Understand medication and prescriptions
- Unit 02: Supply, storage and disposal of medication
- Unit 03: Understand the requirements for the safe administration of medication
- Unit 04: Record-keeping and audit processes for medication
Course Length
8 weeks (although you can complete more quickly if you wish)
Attendance
This course is part of our online learning offer, and you will primarily study at home. Regular drop-in workshops are available, facilitated by a specialist tutor. We encourage attendance at the drop-in sessions for support, reassurance and knowledge building.
You will receive submission dates for all units.
