Understanding Mental Health Needs

Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health is available as a progression opportunity. This is completed online, so learners need access to computer, laptop or tablet. The course is open to learners 19+.
This qualification aims to increase your knowledge of mental health and mental wellbeing.
The qualification will help you to understand:
- Mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved
- How to support mental wellbeing through various stages of life
- Mental ill health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill health
- The skills required to work in the mental health service
This qualification allows you to gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental wellbeing, to support individuals with mental health problems.
Achievement of this qualification will help support progression into a variety of job roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors which support people with mental health problems.
Assessment Awarding Body: NCFE
Assessment is knowledge-based only, and you will complete online learning and answer a series of questions for each unit of the qualification.
To achieve this qualification, you’ll need to complete all five mandatory units:
- Unit 1: Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing
- Unit 2: Promotion of mental health and wellbeing
- Unit 3: Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences
- Unit 4: Understanding mental ill health
- Unit 5: Working in mental health
This is an online learning course. You will receive access to an online portfolio (e-assessor) where you will find learning materials, assessment tasks and tutor feedback. You will also be allocated a specialist tutor who will guide you through your studies and provide regular feedback.
Course Length:
16 weeks (although you can complete more quickly if you wish)
Attendance:
This course is part of our online learning offer, and you will primarily study at home. Regular drop-in workshops are available, facilitated by a specialist tutor. We encourage attendance at the drop-in sessions for support, reassurance and knowledge building.
You will receive submission dates for all units.
If you require additional support, regular tutorials can be arranged.
On completing the Level 3 Understanding Mental Health course, you may wish to progress onto further online learning courses. These courses give you an opportunity to specialise in other areas including:
